It is one of the south west region’s most famous landmarks.
It regularly makes the TV news as the place locals go to cool off on hot days.
But even Simmo’s Beach on the Georges River needs a spit and polish from time to time, so this year it will be the main focus of Clean Up Australia Day.
Locals are being encouraged to make a positive difference to the environment by lending a hand to clean up this popular area on Sunday, March 5.
On that day hundreds of thousands of volunteers across the country will join Australia’s largest community-based environmental event to clean up streets, parks and bushland.
Campbelltown Council hopes many of them will join the effort at Simmo’s Beach.
The council hosted clean-up at Simmo’s Beach aim to protect and preserve valuable flora and fauna by clearing the adjacent reserve of rubbish.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said Simmo’s Beach had been a favourite spot for picnicking and swimming in Campbelltown for generations.
But he says that it’s also home to endangered ecological communities and threatened flora and fauna.
“Simmo’s Beach is just one of our natural assets which can be significantly impacted by the thoughtless disposal of rubbish or illegal dumping,” he said.

The clean up will start from 9am and end at noon.
Volunteers will meet at the entrance gate to Simmo’s Beach Reserve, located on the corner of Fifth Ave and Helicia Road, Macquarie Fields.
Participants are asked to wear long pants and enclosed shoes, and take along a hat and drinking water.
Gloves and sunscreen will be provided.
