Former mayor Lara Symkowiak has failed in her bid to become the Liberal Party candidate for the state seat of Camden.
As revealed last week in the South West Voice in Macarthur, Ms Symkowiak challenged sitting Liberal MP Peter Sidgreaves, who is serving his first term in parliament.
The ballot was held last night and only one round of voting was required after Mr Sidgreaves received 38 votes.
Ms Symkowiak had the support of 20 branch members, while eight of them voted for a third candidate, Aaron Colley.
The writing was on the wall for Ms Symkowiak at the AGM of the branch held in late October, when her supporters were defeated for committee positions.
Among those elected were former Camden MP Chris Patterson as president, while current Camden mayor Therese Fedeli was voted in as treasurer.
Ms Fedeli has already been named Liberal Party candidate in the new seat of Leppington. It is understood she was preselected unopposed and without the need for a ballot.
The Labor Party will hold its preselection for Leppington this Saturday, with Liverpool councillor Nathan Hagarty tipped to win the ballot and face off with Ms Fedeli at the general election next March.
Labor has announced that Liverpool MP Paul Lynch is retiring from politics after almost 28 years.
Liverpool Labor councillor Charisma Kaliyanda will be contesting the seat at the election for the party.
The Liberal Party have yet to announce who their Liverpool candidate will be.
Labor’s Camden candidate will be Sally Quinnell, who would be a good chance to beat Peter Sidgreaves if there was a big swing to Labor in March.
In Campbelltown and Macquarie Fields, sitting Labor MPs Greg Warren and Anoulack Chanthivong will be seeking a third term.
The Liberal Party have not yet announced their candidates for those two safe Labor seats.
