Police have charged seven people with drug offences during day one of an operation at an annual music festival in Camden yesterday.

That’s one more than charged last year at The Secret Garden Music Festival, a two day event held at Brownlow Hill Loop Road, near Cobbitty.

The festival, which attracted 3,000 people, started yesterday and will conclude tonight, Saturday, February 27.

Officers from Camden Local Area Command, with assistance from the Dog Unit, yesterday conducted a high visibility operation at the festival to target anti social behaviour, alcohol related crime and liquor licensing legislation.

There were 99 vehicle searches by a police and a total of 116 people were searched, with 15 drug detections.

Seven people were issued Field Court Attendance Notices for a total of 11 offences including possessing prohibited drug and supply prohibited drug.

They were all granted conditional bail to appear at Picton Local Court on April 26.

The operation will recommence today.

At last year’s Secret Garden Music Festival police charged six people with drug-related offences. Police estimated that more than 2,500 people attended the first day of last year’s festival.

Police then conducted 75 person searches, there were a total of 11 alleged drug detections for MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine and cannabis and six people were served with field court attendance notices for a total of seven charges. Police also issued five cannabis cautions to revellers.
