The message of the 2017 NSW Seniors Festival
The message of the 2017 NSW Seniors Festival is Doing More Together.

This year’s NSW Seniors Festival is all about Doing More Together and South Western Sydney Local Health District is rising to the challenge.

The District has partnered with the local community to support a week-long celebration for our senior citizens. The festival is an opportunity for people of all ages to come together to recognise the positive impact and valuable contributions older people make to our local community.

Director of health promotion Mandy Williams stressed the importance of staying socially engaged and embracing opportunities to do more together, regardless of age.

“It’s never too late to try something new and we want to inspire seniors to get healthy, meet new people and stay socially active,” said Ms Williams.

“Thanks to our strong partnerships with local councils and other community groups, we’re proud to have lots on offer for older people in south west Sydney,’’ Ms Williams said.

“From yoga to Zumba, Tai Chi, falls prevention exercises and even intergenerational debates, there’s something for everyone.”

The District makes local seniors a priority all year round by hosting an array of Active Over 50 classes across south west Sydney.

Classes are led by qualified and experienced instructors.

Those looking to maximise their independence at home and reduce their risk of falls can register for Stepping On – a free seven week program offered by the District’s Health Promotion Service.

NSW Seniors Festival, formerly NSW Seniors Week, runs for 10 days, between March 3 and 12.
