Federal MP Anne Stanley has called for an end to the buckpassing that for years has prevented action to fix the low level bridge crossing over the Georges River at Cambridge Avenue, Glenfield.

Speaking after taking Labor’s infrastructure spokesperson Pat Conroy on a tour of south west region congestion hotspots yesterday, Ms Stanley said it was time to act.

“This road is a major thoroughfare for locals in the area, however it has long been the victim of buck passing by Federal and State Governments,” said the Werriwa MP, who was elected for the first time at the July 2, 2016 federal election.

“To make matters worse, it will be further impacted by the additional traffic arising from the construction and subsequent operation of the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal.’’

The low level causeway over the Georges River forms a link between roadways owned by State and Federal Governments.

Ms Stanley called on all levels of government to end the finger pointing and work together in replacing the causeway.

“This is essential infrastructure that must be considered as part of the intermodal development,” Ms Stanley said.

Ms Stanley also highlighted the congestion already apparent at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Hoxton Park Road in the northern part of her electorate.

“The congestion here is already severe. This will be compounded by developments like Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek and the Moorebank Intermodal,’’ she said.

“That is why it is essential that we make sure these projects are well planned and accompanied by necessary infrastructure like the rail link and fuel line at Badgery’s Creek Airport,’’ Ms Stanley said.
