Cheers to a great idea: Baristas plan: MP Greg Warren, right, with Rosemeadow Public School principal Paul Hughes, P&C president Tammy Scowcroft and students. Mr Warren has just announced the school was successful in its grant application towards a food truck.

A local school will soon give some parents the chance to become baristas.

Rosemeadow Public School will use its $50,000 Community Building Partnership grant for a full-functioning catering trailer and parents will be encouraged to get involved, says principal Paul Hughes.

“The food truck will be used to cater for a number of events the school is running like Grandparents Day, athletics carnivals and cross country carnivals,’’ Mr Hughes said.

“But it will also be there for other schools to utilise.

“We also want to involve our parents in the running of it so they can be trained as baristas and potentially earn qualifications and work as a result of their involvement.”

Rosemeadow Public School P&C president Tammy Scowcroft agrees.

“It will make a massive difference particularly with the education side and potential for people to get more involved,’’ Ms Scowcroft said.

“I didn’t think we’d get the grant – I thought if we did we’d get a little bit but certainly not the whole sum so it’s fantastic.’’

Rosemeadow Public was one of five local schools which were successful in applying for a Community Building Partnership grant.

The NSW Government makes the money available for the grants in all electorates and the local MP gets to announce the successful applicants.

Local MP Greg Warren revealed that 18 local organisations would share in the $330,000 available for Campbelltown.

“This is $330,000 that will be directly spent on organisations in the Campbelltown area,’’ he said.

“While the truck will serve food, I also hope the pilot project serves as inspiration for other schools.

“I can’t wait to see the finished product once it’s up and running,’’ Mr Warren said.
