Liverpool Council has given the green light for plans to upgrade and replace ageing plant and equipment, including cooling tower supports, within its administration building at 33 Moore Street.
A report to the July 30 meeting said that Liverpool Council was aware three years ago when it bought the building that plant and equipment would need to be replaced and upgraded within five years.
It is not clear how much the work will cost nor what specific plant and equipment will be replaced or upgraded. But the chief executive officer, who has been tasked with ensuring the work gets done, will report back to council on cost.
The report to council said ‘‘engineers are considering various relevant remediation works that need to be undertaken , and this report seeks council’s concurrence to authorise the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Carl Wulff, to proceed with any necessary remediation works that may be identified.
‘‘Some of these works include replacing cooling tower supports.’’
Council purchased 33 Moore Street, Liverpool, on May 25, 2011 after its administration centre at Hoxton Park Road was gutted by a suspicious fire in August of the previous year.
At the time of purchase, a due diligence report was prepared which outlined the condition of plant and equipment located within the building.
The report stated that most of the key plant and equipment servicing the Moore Street building would need replacement within the next five years, and money was allocated to the Administration Building reserve in anticipation of those future works.
The report also stated that works would be required to upgrade, retrofit or replace plant and equipment in due course.
Council has proactively managed the day to day operation, repairs and maintenance of the plant and equipment, however time has come to undertake more substantial works, the report stated.
To ensure that building services can be restored in a timely manner to ensure a safe working environment of the occupants of the building, the council voted to delegate to the CEO the authority to utilise funds from the Administration Building Reserve to undertake any works required.
