The seven railway station precincts in the Campbelltown local government area will be targeted for an increase in housing, jobs and public infrastructure under a new plan.

It will include high rise apartments within walking distance to stations such as Ingleburn and Leumeah, but also extensive walking and cycling paths.

The NSW Planning Minister Rob Stokes yesterday  released the strategy for the seven station precincts from Glenfield to Macarthur and has asked for feedback on plans to revitalise them.

The strategy is the result of a joint effort between Campbelltown City Council and NSW Planning and if successfully implemented it will become the model for renewal of other transport precincts in the Sydney metropolitan area.

The aims of the rail corridor strategy are to:

• improve parks and open space
• add to the vibrant streetscape of restaurants, shops and parks that local people enjoy
• enhance walking and cycling tracks
• provide homes within walking distance of local train stations
• help create more local jobs for the community.

Mr Stokes said the Glenfield to Macarthur draft corridor strategy provided a vision for new opportunities to renew areas around the seven stations with new homes, shops and businesses.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“We know that one in every five additional Sydneysiders will be living in the south west by 2036 – so it’s crucial we get the planning right,” Mr Stokes said.[/social_quote]

“The community has already responded to a survey and told us what they love about their neighbourhood and what improvements they’d like to see.

“We’ve used this feedback to provide a roadmap for revitalisation which will facilitate more than 20,000 additional jobs and 15,000 new homes by 2036.”

The draft corridor strategy outlines the future vision for each area along the train line including community facilities, transport and other services as well as the types of new homes and jobs.

Once the community provides feedback on the strategy, it will go back to the Department of Planning and Environment for further refinement.

The seven precincts are around the following seven stations:

· Glenfield

· Macquarie Fields

· Ingleburn

· Minto

· Leumeah

· Campbelltown

· Macarthur

Member for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons and Member for Camden Chris Patterson welcomed the plans to revitalise the station precincts.

“Our community relies heavily on the rail line, so improving these stations and the areas around them will provide benefits for residents and commuters,” Ms Gibbons said.

“I am excited that this plan identifies how we can revamp and improve these areas,” Mr Patterson said.
