Hit the road: Join other cyclists this Sunday at Eschol Park to celebrate Cycle Week.

Campbelltown City Council is inviting riders of all ages to celebrate Bike Week and all the benefits of bike riding by taking part in Ready to Ride Day this Sunday, September 20.

It will be held at Eschol Park Sports Complex for two hours between 10am and noon.

The annual NSW Bike Week is held during September 12-20 and council gets into the spirit of the week by staging this fun family event, aimed at promoting bike safety and raising the profile of cycling as a healthy, low cost alternative to driving short distances.

Combining family fun with bike safety education, the event gives residents the opportunity to ride around the Eschol Park circuit and enjoy fun activities including bicycle maintenance checks, a bike balance course, face painting, a sausage sizzle and lots more.

The highlight of the event will be a road safety quiz, with correct entries going into a draw to win great prizes.

Entry to the event is free – all you need to bring is your bike and a helmet.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said council was investing in teaching residents about bike safety by staging the Ready to Ride Day event each year and operating the Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre on King Street, Campbelltown.

“The Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre is a great place to teach your children to ride. It has traffic lights, roundabouts and stop signs to help children understand road rules and practice safe behaviour on the road,’’ he said.

“Council is proud to promote bicycle safety in a fun and safe environment, and provides a number of safe, off-road bicycle tracks at Macquarie Fields Triathlon Track, Raby Sports complex, Coronation Park, Milton Park and Ambarvale sportsground,” Cr Lake said.
