“On behalf of a grateful community, I want to assure every police officer across the nation, in particular the local police officers at the Liverpool, Green Valley, Cabramatta and Fairfield Local Area Commands that their efforts are not taken for granted.’’
That’s what Chris Hayes, Federal Member for Fowler, told Federal Parliament last week, before literally getting on his bike and joining hundreds of police officers and their supporters in the annual motorcycle Wall to Wall Ride for Remembrance.
The participants paid tribute to the brave officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“The ride represents an opportunity to acknowledge the unique and often dangerous nature of policing. The job of protecting and serving the community is not an easy one and those brave enough to wear the police uniform deserve our gratitude”, Mr Hayes said.
Cabramatta LAC crime manager Detective Inspector Darren Newman also took part in the ride.
“This was my first Wall-to-Wall and a great opportunity to pay my personal respects to all fallen officers, but in particular my mate and mentor the late Det. Insp. Bryson Anderson. A special moment at the wall Memorial to reflect on a truly great man”, Det Insp. Newman said.
Earlier this week Mr Hayes spoke in Parliament about the importance of the National Police Remembrance Day, observed annually on the 29th of September, as a day to pause and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
“The bravery of our police men and women and their dedication to serving and protecting our community should be nationally acknowledged and never taken for granted. We are forever in their debt,’’ Mr Hayes said during his speech.
“It takes a special kind of person and a special kind of courage and commitment to wear the police uniform.’’
