Once upon a time banks and the post office were deserting Minto Mall shopping centre.
But since it has returned bigger and better as Minto Marketplace, these vital community services are also making a comeback.
First it was the ANZ Bank which opened a branch on the northern entrance to the centre.
And just a matter of a few days ago, Australia Post closed down its Lincoln Street outlet and took the whole lot up to Minto Marketplace, opposite the ANZ.
If the queues are anything to go by (pictured below), the post office has been sorely missed by the locals.
♦ The former Wests Tigers CEO and Campbelltown local Steve Noyce was in a corporate box watching the round one clash against the NZ Warriors last Saturday.
“Noycee’’ has always been a popular bloke around the footy traps and it was no surprise to see many people coming up to say hello to the “tall timber’’.
♦ Here’s a community forum that really should not be missed by anyone concerned with the drug ice, alcohol and mental health.
A joint effort by local groups Campbelltown Community Drug Action Team (CDAT), Partners in Recovery and Liverpool CDAT, the forum will include guest speakers, a panel discussion, general information and access to support, as well as community stalls from relevant organisations.
If you are an ice addict and want help, or those with mental health issues related to alcohol and family members concerned about mental illness, this forum is for you.
The forum will be held in the The Fitzroy Room of the Campbelltown Catholic Club on Wednesday, March 23.
There will be two sessions, 10am-12 noon and 6pm-8pm. Guest speakers will include Prof Ian Webster and James Pitts, the well known CEO of Odyssey House and others working in the Mental Health & Drug/Alcohol field.
A panel discussion and Q&A will also be art of the program. If you’d like to attend please RSVP to Courtney Whittaker via email at courtney.whittaker@swsphn.com.au by March 18.
♦ And finally a pat on the back for Campbelltown Council for putting on a civic reception next week for our top HSC achievers in 2015.
This is strictly for students who attended local schools, but an excellent gesture nonetheless in the civic hall.
