Raby Sports Complex: Will it need to grow as Campbelltown’s population explodes over the next 30 years?

A population boom is on the way and Campbelltown Council wants to start planning for the sport facilities that will be needed.

It wants current local residents to play a major role in shaping the future of sport and recreation in the Campbelltown area.

It will do this by giving locals a chance to have their say on a proposed strategy to develop and manage sport and recreation facilities.

Council has engaged sport and leisure planning consultants Otium Planning Group to assist in the development of a comprehensive Sport and Recreation Strategy.

As part of a community consultation process, council is inviting residents and sport stakeholders to express their views via a survey that will be distributed to local schools, sporting clubs and organisations from the middle of this month and at community forums to be held in February.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said the strategy will determine council’s priorities for future improvements to existing facilities and development of new facilities.

“Our city is experiencing major growth and a shift in our demographic makeup,’’ the mayor said.

“We need to focus our investment in sport and recreation to ensure it supports the long term needs of our community,” Cr Hawker said.

“We regularly receive requests for support from local sport and recreation clubs, but need up-to-date information on which to base decisions.

“The development of the strategy recognises the important role that sport and recreation plays in our community.

“I encourage residents to get involved and share their ideas, and help to shape the future of our city,” Cr Hawker said.
