Domestic incident: officer bitten by dog at Macquarie Fields

A man has today been charged with assaulting police after an incident at Macquarie Fields overnight where an officer was also bitten by a dog.

About 2.20am today (Monday, March 5), police were called to Blackwood Crescent after a domestic incident.

As the officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command dealt with the incident they attempted to remove a 51-year-old man from the premises.

Police will allege that as they escorted the man down the front steps of the home, he turned and punched one officer in the face.

As both officers attempted to restrain the man on the ground, two dogs that were in the front yard of the premises approached.

One dog attacked, biting one of the officers on the buttock, the arm and foot.

The officer sprayed the dog with OC spray which stopped the attack.

The assailant suffered minor head injuries during the arrest and also spat blood at the officers.

Further police arrived, and the man was handcuffed and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

There he was checked by Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Campbelltown Hospital with minor head injuries.

The injured officers were also assessed, but required no further treatment to their injuries.

When released from hospital the man was conveyed to the police station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, four counts of assaulting police and resisting arrest.

He was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court later today.
