It was mostly a positive message from council to Campbelltown residents who attended the first of two public forums last night.

Around 100 residents registered to attend the two hour forum in the civic centre.

The format included an opening address by Mayor Darcy Lound outlining “recent achievements and highlights’’ and council’s upcoming priorities.

Mayor Lound revealed that council had completed a major planning proposal aimed at reviving Queen Street.

He said that next on the priority list was a council plan to develop an entertainment precinct in the Leumeah business district.

“This could include an entertainment centre, but it is too early to say,’’ the mayor said in response to a question from a former mayor, Mr Paul Blyton.

Also, in response to a question from another resident, Mayor Lound confirmed that it was full steam ahead to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Fisher’s Ghost story.

Mayor Lound revealed that at next Tuesday’s council meeting councillors will vote on a plan that will include a special march as a homage to the parade that used to launch the Fisher’s Ghost festival every year for almost seven decades.

“This is the 200th anniversary of Fred Fisher and his ghost and also the 70th anniversary of the wonderful festival that we all love here in Campbelltown,’’ Mayor Lound said.

He also announced that council had reached agreement securing the Wests Tigers playing seven games in Campbelltown for 15 years.

“This is a big achievement and reflects the importance of having elite clubs playing out of Campbelltown Stadium,’’ he said.

Other questions asked included issues such as domestic violence policies, fireworks and bushland protection.

Following the Q&A session, residents were encouraged to connect with councillors and directors present, including the CEO Lindy Deitz, as well as council customer service staff.

The forum, which was titled Campbelltown Conversations, will be review by council before a second one is held in November.
