Tech Savvy Seniors training program is back in 2016

Tech Savvy Seniors is back in the wake of its successful launch as a pilot program last year.

The program provides free technology training to help local seniors stay connected in our digital society.

Using a computer to send emails and access the internet is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends, or find information.

Tech Savvy Seniors offers friendly and easy to follow training for older residents to help them learn basic computer skills, including how to use email and the internet.

It’s a great launching pad to learning all about hashtags, social media and search engines.

The 2016 program will be offered at local libraries over four weeks, with a two hour session each week.

And this year, the sessions will be available in English, Hindi and Mandarin.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said council was pleased to help seniors embrace new technology.

“Information technology can open up all sorts of new possibilities and make life easier – from communicating with friends and family, to searching for information, managing finances and even shopping,” Cr Hawker said.

“Many seniors have embraced the new technology, but some still feel intimidated by the thought of using a computer or smart phone.

“We hope the workshops will give residents the confidence to make the most of the digital world by connecting with the people they care about, and pursuing hobbies and interests online.

Tech Savvy Seniors sessions in English will begin in early March, while lessons in Hindi and Mandarin are scheduled for April and June and will be facilitated by bilingual trainers, with teaching notes and resources provided.

Techy Savvy Seniors sessions are free, but bookings are essential, as places are limited.
