New faces on district health board will bring experience

new facesSouth Western Sydney Local Health District has welcomed two new board members, Ms Kerrie Murphy and Doctor Shameran Slewa-Younan, who take up the positions this month.

Deputy chair Carolyn Burlew and members Professor Brad Frankum, John Gordon and Professor Neil Merrett were also reappointed to the board.

SWSLHD board chair, Professor Phillip Harris, who was also reappointed, said Ms Murphy and Dr Slewa-Younan were welcome additions to the board, bringing with them a wealth of new skills and experience.

“Ms Murphy brings with her experience in corporate governance and education and will provide a valuable contribution to the board,” Professor Harris said.

“She has more than a decade of successful non-executive directorships in a number of organisations and has experience in leading organisations through government accreditation and registration reviews.

“Dr Slewa-Younan brings with her a good understanding of local community issues and has significant clinical experience and research expertise working with refugees and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds,” he said.

Dr Slewa-Younan is also a senior lecturer in mental health at the School of Medicine, University of Western Sydney, a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Member of the Australian Health Professional Registration Authority.

Professor Harris said he was looking forward to working with the new board members.

The South Western Sydney Local Health District Board is responsible for improving local patient outcomes and responding to issues that arise throughout the Local Health District.
