Everyone is invited to show their support for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of Campbelltown during this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations.

There are a range of activities planned throughout the week, July 3 to 10 to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of First Nations People.

This year’s theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!, calling on people to continue driving positive systemic change in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“Our NAIDOC Week activities form part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and acknowledgment,” says Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss.

“I encourage all residents and members of the community to come together and get involved in NAIDOC Week to learn more about culture and continue to promote a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment in Campbelltown,” Cr Greiss said.

Activities commence on Monday, July 4, with the NAIDOC flag raising ceremony from 9:30am to 10:30am at Campbelltown City Council’s forecourt.

It will be followed by the street march beginning from 10:30am outside the council administration building, heading down Queen Street and finishing at Campbelltown Arts Centre for the community connection day from 11am to 3pm.

The community connection day involves a variety of engaging activities for everyone to enjoy.

They include live music, interactive cultural dance performances, inflatable obstacle course, native planting station and seeding workshop.

Macarthur FC Bulls will be taking part, while other activities include free face painting and arts and craft, free barbecue provided by the Rapid Relief Team, free coffee provided by Lifeline Australia and Miss Frosty’s ice-cream van.

The celebrations will also include the annual NAIDOC touch football competition, hosted by Macquarie Fields Local Area Command and Campbelltown City Council on Wednesday, July 6 from 9am to 2pm at Benham Oval, Minto.
