Locals are invited to get involved in National Science Week by joining a guided walking tour this Saturday (August 12) and learning about how Dharawal National Park is managed.
Geomorphologist and local Dharawal ranger, Dr Rowena Morris, will guide the walk to the picturesque Minerva Pools, and talk about the local environment and management of the national park.
Participants will learn about the science of hazard reduction burning, the environmental process of installing viewing platforms, and managing the different uses of the reserve while maintaining its environmental value.
Guided walking tours through Dharawal National Park run throughout the year, and include strollabout tours designed for parents with toddlers and young children in strollers, and accessible tours created for people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
Deputy Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Meg Oates, said Campbelltown residents were lucky to have a spectacular destination with walking and bike tracks, waterfalls and rock pools, and native fauna and flora, right on their doorstep.

“If you’re interested in finding out about how protecting the environmental importance of Dharawal National Park is balanced with the public’s enjoyment, and educational benefits offered by the park, the National Science Week tour will provide participants with valuable insights.”
The tour runs from 2pm to 3.30pm, and a good level of fitness and mobility is required. Participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat, and to bring a bottle of water with them on the day.
