Young people just want to have fun.

That’s true and a summer campaign across Macarthur just wants to remind them to do so safely.

Celebrate Safe and Well was launched by Youth Solutions last Friday at Campbelltown Catholic Club.

The multi faceted campaign will run until January 2017 and includes information and support for young people to encourage safer celebrations during the festive season.

Throughout the campaign period Youth Solutions staff and volunteers will host interactive stalls at the Campbelltown Catholic Club, local tertiary education institutions and community events, to spread the word about the importance of celebrating safely and making nights out memorable for all the right reasons.

Targeted primarily at young people aged between 18 and 25, Celebrate Safe and Well is part of the safer celebrations project which has been delivered by Youth Solutions and Campbelltown Catholic Club over the past seven years.

The 2016 – 2017 campaign focuses primarily on the issue of binge drinking, encouraging young people to stick to their own limits and to be mindful of the impacts and consequences of binge drinking.

The campaign also highlights the importance of planning ahead for a night out, with a focus on safe transport with the aim of deterring drink driving.

It also touches on the issues of underage drinking and being able to have a good time without alcohol.

Also importantly, the campaign aims to provide basic information about what to do if an emergency situation arises on a night out or while celebrating.

“We feel very excited and privileged to be linking up with Campbelltown Catholic Club again to deliver an important campaign for our community,” says Youth Solutions ceo Geraldine Dean.

“We are passionate about equipping our young people and the wider community with information, education and support so they can make safer decisions and this campaign really captures that passion.

“It allows us to reach a great number of people in our community with some really important health promotion messages.

“Research and data collected from our previous campaigns, has told us that binge drinking remains an issue for our young people.

“And it is the responsibility of the whole community to address that.’’

Interactive activities, including a campaign video, giveaways and a special presentation acknowledging the campaign partner Campbelltown Catholic Club were all part of the campaign launch.
