Howzat: NSW Sport Minister Stuart Ayres, right, with the Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, at Memorial Oval to announce details of a $1.2 million makeover for the cricket facility.

A major makeover is set to transform Memorial Oval, Ingleburn into a top class cricket venue that could eventually host T20 night matches.

The $1.2 million Campbelltown Council project will deliver a female friendly amenities building, new pitches in the practice nets and lighting.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, joined NSW sport minister Stuart Ayres and Cricket NSW ceo Andrew Jones on location at Memorial Oval to announce details of the project.

Mr Ayres announced council’s Memorial Oval project had been granted $100,000 under the $6 million NSW ICC World T20 Cricket Legacy Fund.

Camden District Cricket Club will also receive a $5,000 grant from the Legacy Fund to enable them to enter a women’s side into the Thunder Girls Cricket league.

“As you can see the outdated amenities here in Memorial Oval are in dire need of replacement,’’ Cr Brticevic told the South West Voice.

“They will be replaced with brand new amenities, which will contain female friendly change rooms as well.

“The practice nets will have new cricket pitches installed, and some money will be spent on the ground,’’ Cr Brticevic said.

“We have started planning to get further funding for lighting, to be able to host T20 games here in Memorial Oval.

“As part of this project, Macquarie Fields Oval will get a resurfacing of the pitches in the nets as well.

“I’d say the work will start in the cricket off season, and be ready for next season,’’ Cr Brticevic said.

Mr Ayres said the World T20 Legacy Fund will help local clubs and councils to improve cricket infrastructure, grow female participation and host cricket events across Regional NSW.

“The T20 Legacy Fund is about giving back to local cricket clubs, associations and local councils to drive participation, especially in our rising female stars.”
