A day or two after he was elected mayor of Campbelltown, George Greiss requested that photos of him be taken in Ingleburn.
It resulted in him and his deputy mayor, Warren Morrison, standing in front of one of Ingleburn’s landmarks, the council library, for the photographs, one of which appears above.
In showing such loyalty to the part of Campbelltown he lives in, Cr Greiss was following in the footsteps of another Ingleburn based mayor, Aaron Rule.
It’s true that the northern suburbs of Campbelltown can sometimes feel they are “out of sight, out of mind’’ and that is why councillors who come from those parts turn out to be particularly patriotic about them.
Mayor George Greiss so far looks like he will continue that tradition and indeed build on it a little.
On Wednesday April, 13, Cr Greiss will continue that tradition by delivering in Ingleburn his first major speech since being elected in January.
He will be the guest speaker at Ingleburn business chamber’s April dinner meeting at Ingleburn RSL.
According to the chamber, Cr Greiss will articulate his vision for Campbelltown – and Ingleburn.
His speech will also focus on transparent decision making at council, review of public space infrastructure, city beautification program and state and federal opportunities for Campbelltown.
Having being elected to Campbelltown City Council 14 years ago in 2008, Cr Greiss has a very good grasp of where Campbelltown is at and where it’s heading.
He has held numerous positions on Campbelltown City Council, including chairperson of the Planning and Environment Committee (2012-2016) and the Traffic Committee (2010–2015).
He has also served on the Western City Planning Panel.
And here’s something few people know: the mayor of Campbelltown is currently researching community perception of high-density development in the Sydney metropolitan area for a PhD in Geography and Urban Planning at the School of Social Sciences, Western Sydney University.
