It is about time that critical projects like the rail line to the new Western Sydney airport get under way to create more jobs to support to local businesses and provide greater investment in the region, says Richard Marles.

Speaking after a tour of the region last Friday as the guest of local MP Dr Mike Freelander, the Labor deputy leader said it was important to invest in growing areas such as Macarthur.

“It is unacceptable that the Coalition continues to turn a blind eye to the needs of Macarthur,” Mr Marles said.

“This growing region deserves its fair share of government investment and local businesses, like the manufacturing firms we visited today deserve to be supported by the Federal Government in Canberra.’’

Dr Freelander and Mr Marles, who is the shadow minister for defence, visited W&E Platt, a manufacturing firm in Ingleburn which supplies weapon mounts to the Department of Defence.

He was also taken to DECO Australia in Minto, another manufacturing firm which specialises in aluminium products and surface treatments.

His tour of Macarthur finished with a barbecue morning tea at the Ingleburn RSL sub-branch’s magnificent memorial garden.

Dr Freelander said he visit by Mr Marles highlighted Federal Labor’s commitment to the region.

“Just in the last few months we’ve had Anthony Albanese, Linda Burney and Richard Marles all come to tour our fantastic region,’’ Dr Freelander said.

“Macarthur remains a priority in our national agenda – Labor understands the importance of investing in this growing region.”
