A man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked a woman with a machete during a domestic incident at Raby overnight.
Police say that a 49-year-old man and 45-year-old woman were driving along Raby Road around 10.30pm when they became involved in a heated argument.
They continued to Campbelltown Road at St Andrews where the vehicle stopped, and both alighted from the vehicle, but continued to argue.
Police will allege that the man returned to the vehicle and removed a machete from under the driver’s seat before striking the woman several times to the hands and legs.
The woman suffered serious injuries including the de-gloving of her left hand and the severing of her left and right little fingers.
She also had two toes on her left foot severed and a large laceration to her right calf and ankle.
The man then drove the woman to Campbelltown Hospital and dropped her at the emergency ward before returning home to Campbelltown.
After being assessed the woman was transferred to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police from Macquarie Fields Local Area Command were alerted and the man was arrested at home shortly after and conveyed to Campbelltown Police Station.
Officers seized the man’s vehicle for further forensic analysis and established a crime scene at the Campbelltown home.
The man was later charged with attempted murder and wound with intent to murder.
He has been refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court later today.
