Makeover: Mayor Paul Lake inspects new playground equipment at Hyacinth Reserve, Macquarie Fields.

The biggest makeover of local parks and reserves has started delivering results.

The first of nine new playground refurbishments has been opened to the public as part of a roll out of Campbelltown City Council’s improvement works program across the local government area.

One of the first, the playground at Hyacinth Reserve, Hyacinth Avenue, Macquarie Fields, was opened to the public this week.

It features a double swing set, large climbing net, a seated spinner and slides.

The innovative new play space has an earthy look to complement the reserve’s natural surrounds, and has been developed based on community feedback received through a survey seeking residents’ input on playground designs.

Eight other playgrounds are in various stages of construction and will be rolled out in coming months.

Renew Connect Revitalise is the catchy name for the program, which is funded out of the money raised by last year’s rate hike of almost 12 per cent.

The schedule of works, in order of earliest completion, includes Ingleburn Reserve, Eschol Park Sports Complex, Manooka Reserve, Bradbury, Abington Reserve, Glen Alpine, Heathfield Reserve, Raby, Raby Sports Complex, Kentlyn Reserve, Topaz Reserve, Eagle Vale.

They are scheduled to be ready for puboic use by gthe end of July.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said council’s playground refurbishment program was providing local families with a host of new and exciting recreational facilities.

“We’re delivering on a range of ideas from our community to revamp local playgrounds and enhance families’ experience at their local park,” Cr Lake said.

“Council is proud to invest in improving our local playgrounds so that kids can enjoy the outdoors, and we can help build a healthier and stronger community.

Council has allocated more than $6.1 million to the revitalisation of parks and playgrounds over the next 10 years as part of the Renew Connect Revitalise program.
