A major NSW golf tournament will be played at Campbelltown Golf Club, Glen Alpine, for the next two years.
The NSW Foursomes Championships is one of Golf NSW’s signature tournaments.
As part of a two-year sponsorship partnership between Campbelltown City Council and Golf NSW the championship will be held here in Campbelltown in 2016 and 2017.
This year’s championship will be part of the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost as it will take place over the weekend of November 5-6, which is when the festival gets under way.
The tournament attracts the top amateur players and representatives from across the state.
And for the first time in the 95 year history of the event, this year will see the Mixed Foursomes, Men’s Foursomes and Women’s Foursomes conducted over the same weekend.
Mr Jeff Lawrence, the Campbelltown Council director of city growth and economy, said Campbelltown would benefit from the economic injection and promotion of the city that comes with major events such as this.
“As the regional city of South West Sydney, council is committed to bringing major events, both sporting and cultural, to Campbelltown to strengthen our tourism industry and cement our standing as the recreation and entertainment capital of the south west,” Mr Lawrence said.

“Spectators are welcome, and I encourage locals and visitors alike to head to Campbelltown Golf Club over the course of the weekend tournament,” Mr Lawrence said.
The NSW Men’s and Women’s Foursomes Championships are among the state’s oldest golf tournaments.
Dating back to 1921, the event has seen many of the state’s finest talent lift the winner’s trophy, including Bruce Devlin, Tony Gresham, Paul Gow, Nathan Green, Brendan Jones and recently Jake Higginbottom, Dimi Papadatos and Jordan Zunic, who all went on to become PGA tour of Australasia tournament winners.
Some of the state’s finest female golfers have also tasted victory in the event, including Carlie Butler, Nicki Campbell and Sarah Kemp.
Foursomes requires teams of two to play as a team, hitting alternate shots.
The game is one of the original forms of competition, and is still very common on the links courses of Scotland, the home of golf.
