Do you know someone who deserves an Australia Day award? Pictured are some of the recipients of Campbelltown awards in 2015.

Do you know someone who has excelled academically or in the sporting arena, or someone who has performed a great service to the community?

Nominations are open for the Campbelltown City Australia Day Awards, which give community members and employers the opportunity to acknowledge those significant contributions by nominating worthy recipients.

There are four award categories including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Community Group Initiative of the Year. Nominees must be Australian citizens and live in the Campbelltown Local Government Area, and community organisations must be based locally.

Recipients will be selected based on a range of criteria, including the type and quality of service, educational and sporting achievement, and individual acts of excellence, compassion, generosity or bravery.

Award recipients will be announced as part of Australia Day celebrations on January 26 next year.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the online nomination process made it easy to let council know about people who had made a difference.

“Campbelltown would not be the great place it is without those willing to strive to be their best or do their best for their community,’’ he said.

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, November 18.
