The new MP for Campbelltown, Greg Warren, yesterday used his maiden speech in Parliament to pay tribute to the people of his electorate.

“Our greatest attribute is the good nature of our people,’’ he said.

“I credit this fact to the many amazing volunteers and service organisations that Campbelltown and our region of Macarthur would not be the same without.

“Today I pay tribute to them all,’’ Mr Warren said.

“If I could highlight in words the character of our community, it is the selfless generosity and unwavering spirit of our people combined with their hardworking ethos that embodies the very fabric of our home.”

Listening to his speech in the public gallery were members of his family, friends and supporters.

Mr Warren emphasised his intention to fight for the needs and aspirations of his electorate and to make sure Campbelltown gets the representation “it so rightly deserves’’.

He put the government on notice that he would be holding them to account on promises made during the March 28 election campaign.

“I note the government’s commitments to upgrade Campbelltown Hospital and Appin Road, to provide additional parking at Campbelltown railway station and security fencing at Rosemeadow Playing Fields, and to provide the Menangle/Spring Farm connection as a vital southern link for the developing region and local road safety provisions,’’ Mr Warren said.

“I look forward to advocating as strongly as I can and working cooperatively, however I will unreservedly pursue these improvements without reservation to ensure they are installed, as promised.

“I pledge to represent every man, woman and child of Campbelltown without prejudice, regardless of their political preference, in every way I can.”

Greg Warren is the sixth member to represent Campbelltown since the creation of the seat in 1968.

He won the seat from the Liberals’ Bryan Doyle with  a 14.1 percent swing to Labor.
