The State Member for Wollondilly, Jai Rowell, is encouraging local youth to apply for a position on the 2019 NSW Youth Advisory Council (YAC).

The YAC is responsible for advising the NSW Government on issues of importance to young people, as well as evaluating youth-related policies.

Mr Rowell says the YAC is a great opportunity for local youth to represent their views on policies and programs affecting young people.

“I encourage all local young people to apply for the opportunity to represent our community on the 2019 YAC,” Mr Rowell said.

Council membership is open to all NSW residents between the ages of 12 and 24 with 12 Council members being sought from diverse locations, backgrounds and life experiences.

The aim is to secure a range of talented young people from across NSW who reflect the diverse population of the state.

Feedback received from the Council plays an important role in assisting the NSW Government to develop effective policies and programs for young people.

One of the key roles of the YAC is to provide advice to the Advocate for Children and Young People (ACYP), Andrew Johnson.

The Council has also met with many different NSW Government departments and helped to organise events for children and young people to have their voices heard.’’

For more information and application forms please visit the Advocate for Children and Young People’s website www.acyp.nsw.gov.au or by phoning 9248 0970.
