Campbelltown City Council’s Education and Care Services will soon introduce the internationally renowned Little Scientists program into its long day care centres.
The Little Scientists program aims to encourage children’s curiosity in science through age appropriate fun and playful experiments.
It also aids in the development of fine motor skills, self-confidence, social skills and language, and is an excellent tool for educators to meet a range of national child care standards, including the National Quality Framework and the Early Years Learning Framework.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said that Campbelltown City Council is one of only three education and care service providers in NSW that has entered into an agreement to implement the program.
“A qualified cuncil educator will manage the program, and provide training for council’s child care staff as well as private providers and not-for-profit organisations within the Campbelltown Local Government Area,” Cr Lake said.
“Our goal is to increase access to high quality education for all pre school children in Campbelltown City.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“While these little ones are a long way from choosing a career, this program encourages an interest in scientific, engineering and technical occupations, and is a positive step in ensuring these youngsters are equipped for the workforce of the future,” he said.[/social_quote]
Little Scientists is a not-for-profit initiative of FROEBEL Australia Limited and the German Little Scientists’ House Foundation.
In Germany, where the program originated, more than one million children benefit from Little Scientists lessons.
It has also been launched in Austria, the Netherlands, Malta and Thailand.
