Whodunnit: memory loss and Mr Holmes

Hmm, I wonder whodunnit: a scene from Mr Holmes

As part of its association with the Sydney Film Festival, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre will be screening the new movie Mr Holmes tomorrow night, Saturday, August 1.

This is a really interesting new look at the famous detective.

Aged 93 and long retired, Sherlock Holmes (beautifully acted by the great Ian McKellen) lives in a farmhouse and tends to his bees.

His only company is his housekeeper Mrs Munro (Laura Linney) and her young son Roger (Milo Parker).

Struggling with his fading memory, Holmes uses a variety of exotic remedies to reverse the memory loss, to little avail.

Crotchety and resentful of the fictional representations of him, Holmes is haunted by a case from decades prior: an unsolved case that forced him into retirement.

Inspired by the enthusiastic Roger, Holmes is determined to crack one final mystery.

Directed by Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters, Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn ), Mr Holmes is a delightful twist on the world’s most famous detective stories.

By the way, if you are a film buff it may be a good idea to save the following three dates when more films will be shown at Casula Powerhouse as part of the Sydney Film Festival:
