Ghosts women first grade lost their semi final

Both south west Sydney grade cricket clubs finished the 2014-15 season on a low note after suffering one day defeats despite playing at home.

At Rosedale Oval, Parramatta responded with 6 for 160 in reply to the Fairfield Liverpool Lions meek total of 7/156 after their allotted overs.

At Raby Sports Complex, the Camden Campbelltown Ghosts won the toss and sent the visitors in.

Gordon were cruising at  four for 142, but the Ghosts were able to put the brakes on to restrict them to 176 all out.

One highlight for the Ghosts in the field was fast bowler Josh Dunning, who finished with five for 34 off nine overs on his debut in the top grade.

When it came the Ghosts’ turn to bat, things started badly and it was a wonder they got so close to the target.

At one stage the Ghosts were 6/47 but a fighting partnership from Tom Rogers (31) and Jayden Simmons (49) took the score to 7/127 and provided some hope but ultimately they were dismissed for 15 runs short of their target.

The Ghosts women’s first grade side played in a semi final on Sunday at Village Green against last year’s premiers Universities. Chasing a score of 8/269, the Ghosts struggled early and despite a very good  knock from skipper Claire Koski (61) they ultimately fell short at 166.

Ghosts second grade travelled to Chatswood with a squad badly hit by injuries, but after batting first they compiled a competitive score of 9/188, with Jordan Browne top scoring with an unbeaten 53.

Gordon began the chase well but Ghosts fielders and bowlers did not back off with Lysaught 3/13 and Constable 22/36 bowling well.

Gordon eventually fell over the line in the 49th over at 6/191.

Third grade was at home to Gordon. Ghosts bowled first, dismissing Gordon for 227, with Appleton (3/42) and Bray (2/38) notable contributions. Needing 80 runs off the last nine overs, the Ghosts reached their target thanks to an outstanding captain’s knock from Nathan Baker, who made 103.
