Labor has won, but what is their agenda for the next four years?

Labor will rule Campbelltown Council for the next four years.
Labor will rule Campbelltown Council for the next four years after getting seven councillors elected on September 10.

We now know that the Labor Party will rule Campbelltown over the next four years.

Which is as it should be.

Labor got almost 50 per cent of all votes cast across our town and with a bit of luck it could have ended up with a clear majority in the civic centre.

It will of course have its main man, George Brticevic, in the big chair for the entire term.

New two year terms make it difficult, if not impossible, to give someone else a taste of the mayorship for one year.

But that is to the good and no doubt why the change to two year mayoral terms.

The bottom line should always be what’s in the best interests of Campbelltown and I have no doubt that Councillor Brticevic is the right man for the job.

His fellow colleagues include one term councillor Darcy Lound, veteran Meg Oates, and a raft of new faces.

Cr Oates has been mayor on several occasions and Cr Lound himself would concede that he needs a bit more experience before he could be considered for the top job.

Probably next term, I’d say.

So what can we expect from a Mayor Brticevic and a dominant Labor team on council for the next four years?

Well, that’s the thing; we don’t know.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]We know what they won’t do – another massive rates hike, a cemetery in Varroville, a big jail, the theft of Hurlstone Agricultural High School, boarding houses.[/social_quote]

Labor made it clear in the previous term of council that it will fight tooth and nail to stop things which it believes are not good for Campbelltown.

But what we will soon find out is what will be Labor’s priorities over those four years to 2020 and the next election.

Will they push to get Queen Street and traffic snarls fixed around the CBD.

Or will they develop an irresistible plan to bring the Wests Tigers back to Campbelltown fulltime.

There are many other challenges ahead and hopefully Labor will develop a clear plan to kick some goals for Campbelltown in the next four years.
