It is ridiculous to take a Roads and Maritime Services centre away from a major hub like Campbelltown, says Labor MP Greg Warren.

RMS offices around the state are closing and being replaced by Service NSW “one stop shops” – forcing people to travel further for essential services like drivers licence renewal.

The new Service NSW Centre promised for Campbelltown will now be built in new suburb Gregory Hills.

The NSW Opposition is calling on the Baird Government to reveal its plans for the Campbelltown motor registry – with the Government refusing to confirm whether the registry will close, leaving locals wondering whether they’ll be forced to travel further afield for key services.

On a visit to Campbelltown today, state opposition leader Luke Foley met Mr Warren and with locals concerned about losing essential services if the motor registry closes down.

“The fact is Campbelltown missed out in this year’s budget, with a number of projects promised at the election nowhere to be found,” Mr Foley said.

“Now it looks like Campbelltown is set to lose its motor registry, a major inconvenience to the many locals who rely on the services it provides.

“If the Baird Government is going to make services less convenient for people by shutting down motor registries, they should at least put the Service NSW centres in accessible locations.”

Mr Warren said that as “the biggest city in the Macarthur region, Campbelltown is the obvious place for a Service NSW centre.

“The Baird Government must confirm the future of the Campbelltown motor registry – and explain to locals why they will now have to travel even further for essential services.”
