Labor paints town red.
Labor councillor Darcy Lound, who has been elected for a second term, but first time with Labor.

Labor will have at least seven councillors for the next four years in Campbelltown.

The ALP is receiving just under 50 cent of the votes cast in today’s local government elections.

With just under 60,000 votes counted, the ALP has 45 percent of the vote, which translates into 7.17 quotas.

Campbelltown has 15 councillors and at this stage it looks almost certain Labor’s George Brticevic will be mayor for at least the next two years.

It also means the return to council of Labor’s veteran councillor Meg Oates, as well as Cr Darcy Lound.

The first term Labor faces will be Margaret Chivers, Rey Manoto, Masood Chowdhury and Karen Hunt.

The Liberal Party looks set to have three councillors elected, including the return of Cr George Greiss and Cr Ted Rowell.

Ralph George was the party’s candidate in third spot on their ticket and is with a good chance of getting up.

The Liberals have 2.66 of a quota after getting 16.6 percent of the vote.

Cr Fred Borg has been re-elected, as has Cr Paul Lake.

That leaves three more spots to be filled and at this stage the Greens look like they may snare one spot after getting almost 5 percent of the vote for .79 of a quota.

Cr Bob Thompson, who sits on .7 of a quota is also a good chance to win another term.

That means 7 Labor, 3 Liberal, 1 Greens and three independents, Borg, Lake and Thompson with just one more spot up for grabs.

The Christian Democrats have .59 of a quota, Cr Clinton Mead .35, Cr Sue Dobson .47 and former councillor Paul Blyton .24 of a quota.

So far 6,482 informal votes have been cast – 11.22 per cent of the total counted tonight.
