NSW Labor leader Chris Minns is backing Nathan Hagarty, his candidate in the new seat of Leppington, to make a difference.

“Nathan is a candidate who not only knows this electorate back to front but is also passionate about achieving outcomes for its residents,’’ says Mr Minns, pictured above (left) with Mr Hagarty.

“He is a person who can deliver for the people for Leppington. There’s no doubt this election will be an uphill battle, but candidates like Nathan will be a strong voice for change and the fresh start that Leppington needs.’’

The NSW state election is due in March 2023.

Mr Hagarty was endorsed as Labor candidate after winning a preselection ballot.

A lifelong resident of South Western Sydney, he is now raising his two children with his wife Christy.

Currently serving as a Liverpool City councillor and treasurer of local government, Mr Hagarty brings a wealth of experience in advocating for his local community to his candidacy.

He is also involved in his community as a director of two local not for profit community organisations.

His record of fighting for the people of Leppington includes calls to ensure his community gets the roads, schools and health facilities they deserve.

Mr Hagarty has also backed local residents in their fight against local development and for proper infrastructure.

As a product of public education and a member of the P&C his two children attend, he says he is concerned about the teacher shortage crisis facing NSW schools and the impact it is having on learning outcomes across the state.

He says he wants to fight to ensure local school have enough teachers in classrooms and local hospitals have the staff they need to provide patient care.

“I know this will be a tough election, and I don’t take anything for granted, but I love this community and believe we deserve better,’’ he says.

“After 12 long years this Liberal government has presided over crises in our health and education systems, overdevelopment in our local suburbs and an under investment in core infrastructure we desperately need.

“I will be fighting day in and day out to ensure every single person in Leppington has access to the immense opportunities that our state has to offer.

“It’s time for a fresh start in NSW and  only a Minns Labor government can deliver that. I look forward to the opportunity to deliver for the community of Leppington,’’ Mr Hagarty said.

  1. What is Mr. Minns doing about Wollondilly, putting a kid in there to stand. Labour you are a joke and show no leadership in the South West area.
