Fifty years of service to Campbelltown: Gerard Bakkers receives his Jubilee Awards certificate from mayor George Brticevic.

This year’s Jubilee award recipients share a special milestone with Campbelltown.

The Jubilee Awards recognise individuals in Campbelltown who have lived in or contributed to the community for 50 years or more.

Campbelltown was declared a city 50 years ago in 1968, which was also the year the first ever electric train pulled into the railway station.

That was the theme when long standing residents and organisations were acknowledged at the 2018 Jubilee awards presentation at Campbelltown Civic Centre earlier in the week.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, hosted a civic reception for eight individuals and representatives of three organisations, to acknowledge and celebrate their combined 550 years of living, growing and working in Campbelltown.

Cr Brticevic thanked the award recipients for their contribution, making special mention that they shared the milestone with Campbelltown itself, which was declared a city 50 years ago.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Earlier this year, Campbelltown celebrated two milestones in its history – half a century since it was declared a city and the first electric train pulling into the railway station,’’ the mayor said.[/social_quote]

“Our Jubilee awards recipients witnessed those two great events, as well as the many important moments that followed.

“They are part and parcel of our collective history, and the memories they pass on to their children, grandchildren and new residents are an important link that strengthens the ties between us all as well as those who came before us.”

Individual recipients were this year were Anita and Gerard Bakkers, Jan and Garry Munro, Dale and Garry King, and Margaret and Gary Locke.

Organisation recipients were Burns Association of Physical Culture, Cameron Brae Group and Campbelltown Liverpool District Pistol Club.

Campbelltown Aboriginal community members or groups who have lived in or contributed to the community for 30 years or more are also eligible for Jubilee awards every year.

  1. As a former Alderman of the Council of the day when the city was declared and a direct descendant of the second Mayor of Campbelltown ,Charles Bull, I would have thought that we would have been invited to the 50th. I am particularly pleased that Garry Munro was among the recipients as Garry is a direct descendant of the 3rd Mayor of Campbelltown. As there are not many direct descendant of that first Council in 1882 it is a shame that the history of the city is not respected and celebrated
