C’mon: Thong throwing is one of the fun activities of Camden’s Australia Day program.

Australia Day is a chance to unite and celebrate our diversity as a community, says Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak.

“I am proud that Australia Day in Camden continues to offer the opportunity for our growing, diverse and vibrant community to come together and celebrate everything that makes our nation great – from our rich history to our contemporary culture,” Cr Symkowiak said.

A rural setting will be the backdrop to some Australiana themed events and activities for Camden’s Australia Day celebrations tomorrow, January 26.

From a street parade that includes some of the country’s motoring heritage, to a thong throwing competition and live music, Camden’s program always has something for everyone.

The day will feature an impressive line up of activities including the civic awards and citizenship ceremony, entertainment in John Street and the popular Macarthur Lions street parade through Argyle Street.

“It will be an honour to welcome our newest citizens on Australia Day and present the prestigious Camden Australia Day civic awards to recognise our community heroes,’’ the mayor said.

“I congratulate all of the nominees for 2018.”

Cr Symkowiak praised 2017 citizen of the year, Robyne Meek, and young citizen of the year, Johann Marais, for their continued commitment to the local community.

“I also look forward to welcoming our 2018 Australia Day Ambassador, Paralympic gold medallist, Sam Bramham, to join us in celebrating this important day,” Cr Symkowiak said.
