Fantastic fireworks finish off Campbelltown’s Australia Day program at Koshigaya Park.

Live performances, rides, stalls and a variety of Aussie-themed activities make Campbelltown City the place to be tomorrow, Friday, January 26, when locals join family, friends and neighbours to celebrate Australia Day.

The community is invited to join the party across two locations – Koshigaya Park, Campbelltown and Hallinan Park, Ingleburn.

Celebrations will kick off with official proceedings in Koshigaya Park from 8am and will include a barbecue breakfast, flag raising and a visit from the 2018 Campbelltown City Australia Day ambassador – award-winning sports journalist Michael Tomalaris.

Local Australia Day Award winners will be presented with their certificates and a citizenship ceremony are also part of the program.

Celebrations at Ingleburn will be hosted from 11am to 2pm.

Official proceedings at Greg Percival Community Centre will include an address by the Mayor of Campbelltown,
Cr George Brticevic, and a citizenship ceremony.

Games and entertainment will take place in adjacent Hallinan Park from 12pm, with a variety of Aussie-themed activities and performances.

There’ll also be plenty to do across Campbelltown City’s three leisure centres on Australia Day, with half-price swim entry ($3 adults and $2 children/concession) between 9.30am and 5pm, in addition to a jumping castle at each facility from 10am to 1pm, sack races, games and pool inflatables – at Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre from 9.30am to 12.30pm; Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre from 10.30am to 1.30pm; and Eagle Vale Central from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

The celebrations at Koshigaya Park will recommence from 4pm, with carnival rides, stalls and a fantastic line-up of free stage entertainment, including performances by Campbelltown Theatre Group, Maddi Lyn, Tall Pop Syndrome and Super Tonic.

A fantastic fireworks display will close the day’s celebrations, at the family-friendly time of 9pm.

Cr Brticevic encouraged residents to go along to one or both locations, and be part of Australia’s national celebration.

“Australia Day celebrates what we love most about our country – a safe and relaxed lifestyle, great weather, a sense of community and the rich cultural diversity which makes us unique,” he said.

“It’s about bringing people together, and council is proud to host entertainment, rides and family friendly activities, including barbecues, thong throwing and sack races, which give locals the opportunity to celebrate as a community.

“Our newest citizens, people who’ve chosen to not only make Australia, but Campbelltown home, will pledge their loyalty to our country and its people at two citizenship ceremonies, and we’ll have the announcement of our annual award winners who’ve stood out for their service to our city during the past year.

“It’s going to be a great party, and I invite the whole community to come along and make the most of all the activities on offer right here on our doorstep.”

Both Australia Day events are drug and alcohol free, and police will be enforcing Alcohol Free Zones – no alcohol of any kind will be permitted in the event areas.
