It’s a rewarding experience: MP calls for more blood donors

MP Chris Hayes donates blood regularly and now he wants south west Sydney to sign up

Next week is the national Blood Donation Week and we all need to think hard about why we should get into it.

Donating blood, that is.

Well, here is the main reason: One in three Australians will need a blood donation at some point in their lives while only one in 30 of us donate blood each year.

So the equation needs to be improved a fair bit and it can only be done if more of us join the likes of MP Chris Hayes, who donates blood on a regular basis.

Now Mr Hayes has started a campaign to encourage more people in our local area to donate and help save thousands of lives.

Chris and his electorate office staffers are leading by example, making regular blood donations at the Liverpool Blood Donor Centre, located at 50 Macquarie Street Liverpool.

This is currently the only blood donor centre for residents of South West Sydney.

“Giving blood is a rewarding experience, and I would encourage all those who are able to donate to give the Liverpool Blood Donor Centre a call,’’ says Mr Hayes.

“After all, it is impossible to predict when we may be relying on someone’s blood donation to help those we love.

“By donating blood people can give back to their community and know that what they are doing really does help their fellow Australians,’’ Mr Hayes said.
