A young woman remains in a critical condition after a tree fell on a car she was travelling in near Campbelltown last night.
The 22 year old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition for treatment of head and spinal injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old man, was not physically injured and was able to safely get out of the car.
The incident took place around 8.20pm.
Emergency services were called to Menangle Road, near Glen Alpine Drive, Glen Alpine, after reports a large tree had fallen across the roadway and struck a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command located a Ford Ranger, which had been extensively damaged by a large gum tree.
When it fell, the tree also landed on the fence of a power substation and struck a transformer.
The road remained closed as emergency crews worked to clear the large tree and debris. Local road diversion were put in place. If you plan to travel along Menangle Road please check www.livetraffic.com first.
Yesterday afternoon another large tree fell, hitting a power pole and two cars parked on Riverside Drive, Airds.
Campbelltown Fire and Rescue responded to the call for emergency response.
Nobody was hurt in this incident.
The electrical authority was contacted while Fire and Rescue NSW crews removed the tree.
