On track: MP Melanie Gibbons with Campbelltown Councillor Bob Thompson at the upgraded Ingleburn rail station.

It’s taken more than 15 years, says one Campbelltown councillor, but Ingleburn railway station has finally had lifts installed as part of a major upgrade.

Finished two months ahead of schedule, the upgrade at Ingleburn Station means three lifts and other facilities are now available to commuters and other train travellers.

“This is great news for Ingleburn customers,’’ says Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons, who announced the work had been completed.

“This upgrade will ensure that everyone can more easily access public transport services,” Ms Gibbons said.

Councillor Bob Thompson, who said he had been trying for many years to get lifts installed at Ingleburn station, welcomed the upgrade.

“I have tried over 15 years to get the lifts at Ingleburn Station,’’ he said.

“Now thanks to the Liberal Government in NSW we have obtained these lifts that we inspected today.”

The upgrade includes three new lifts, covered walkways from the lifts to the station platforms, reconfigured station entrances and upgraded interchanges.

There is also new bicycle storage, new accessible station toilets, kiss and ride zones, parking spaces for people with a disability and improved lighting.

“All of the improvements are now open to the public, which will make it much easier for customers to access public transport services from Ingleburn Station, especially those using a wheelchair, or those with prams or luggage,’’ Ms Gibbons said.

“They make such a difference.

“We really appreciate the understanding and patience of customers and the local community during construction of this project,” Ms Gibbons said.

The upgrade was delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver modern, safe and accessible transport infrastructure.

Since the Transport Access Program launched in April 2012, more than 400 projects are under way or have been completed.

Western Sydney customers are already benefitting from a significant investment under the program, including a major upgrade of the transport interchange at Fairfield and a new commuter car park recently opened at Canley Vale.

This is in addition to station upgrades soon to get under way at Flemington, Pendle Hill, Wentworthville and Blacktown.

New commuter parking spaces are also currently being constructed at Holsworthy.
