The recent sale of the iconic Macquarie Hotel for $25 million is another big tick for Liverpool, which seems to be growing in leaps and bounds. The popular pub was sold to private hoteliers. Hotels & hospitality group JLL acted as advisors on the sale of the Macquarie Street watering hole.
Apparently the buyers were impressed by the fact Liverpool has been assigned “major regional centre’’ status by the state government and that the town is in the throes of a major commercial and retail boom. The previous owner of the Macquarie held it for almost 30 years.
Speaking of pubs, we won’t embarrass them by naming them, but one local hotel is doing it tough in the kitchen: it has lost three of its chefs in one go. When a chef from another hotel was in there celebrating his birthday, the kitchen were very keen to talk to him.
♦ Well done to the Georges Fair community at Moorebank who donated $10,000 to Liverpool Hospital as a result of fundraising at its Spring Fair. The hospital has used the money to buy wall mounted TVs for the renal unit to improve the experience of patients needing dialysis.
Pictured at the recent presentation of the TV units are, left to right, Linda Walsh, General Manager Marketing and Sales, Investa Land; Nathan Huon, Project Director NSW, Investa Land; Robynne Cooke, General Manager, Liverpool Hospital; patient Kenneth Watson and Kaitlin Giri , Assistant Development Manager, Investa Land.
♦ It’s all happening at the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation. As well as their annual ball being just days away – on Saturday, June 13 to be precise – this wonderful south west Sydney organisation is on the move from Camden to Campbelltown.
CEO Denise McGrath tells us the new office offices will be in 11-13 Dumeresq Street: “We still have an office at Campbelltown Hospital, but we have grown too big to operate exclusively from that space.’’
As for the annual Kids of Macarthur ball, which has been sold out, it will be held at The Cube, and this year’s theme is Sunny Dayz, which will be reflected in the menu and drink selection, entertainment and decorations.
“This year we are raising funds to purchase a paediatric mobile X-ray unit for Paediatric Emergency,’’ says Denise. “It is the latest technology. It will aid in immediate diagnosis of critically ill paediatric patients. This piece of equipment will save lives.
“We are very excited about putting this equipment up for support and inviting the local community to contribute towards its purchase.’’
♦ On Monday we get to find out if any locals have won any Queen’s Birthday Order of Australia honours. The media received the email with the full list yesterday, and we have been sworn to secrecy, courtesy of the embargo placed on releasing the information contained in the media kits. But either way, the first place you will find out one minute after midnight on Sunday is an online newspaper. Like the South West Voice.
