When it comes to feel good stories it really doesn’t get any better than this: business services students across the Macarthur region sitting for their HSC exams are also fundraising for farmers.

The have joined forces with MWLP Linking Youth (Macarthur Workplace Learning Program) to raise money for NSW farmers in a project that means they also get to tick their mandatory work placement requirements box.

The goal of Gift a Farming Family project is to raise $10,000 between November 6 and December 6.

Students from six local schools are taking part: Magdalene Catholic College, Robert Townson High, Mount Annan High, St Patrick’s College, Elderslie High and Campbelltown Performing Arts High.

And they have some suggestions how everybody can make a contribution, no matter their financial situation.

“We understand that not everybody has spare money that they are able to put aside to donate,’’ they say in a media release.

“Because of this, we have introduced the concept of sacrificing one small thing for a week and using the money you would normally spend on this item as your donation.

“This could include coffee, canteen money, popcorn at the movies or a night out.’’

Money raised will help drought affected farmers doing it tough in Dubbo, Broken Hill, Griffith, Narrabri and other towns across Southern NSW.

Money raised will be given to The Salvation Army in Macquarie Fields and they will then pass these on to the rural chaplains in the town selected.

The money will be distributed to the families in the form of Visa or Mastercard gift cards so they are able to decide to use it on whatever they feel will help them the most.

Donations can come from individuals, families, groups of friends, sports groups, schools or workplaces.
