Police are investigating after two men were assaulted during a home invasion overnight.

The incident at a unit in Tindall Avenue was called in around 10.40pm and officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command responded.

Police were told five people had forced entry to the unit and assaulted two male occupants, before personal items were stolen.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located five people in a vehicle nearby.

They all attempted to flee on foot, before officers arrested four men, two aged 29, one aged 30 and one aged 40, and a 27-year-old woman. They were taken to Liverpool Police Station.

One of the occupants, a 26-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene, before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries.

The second occupant, aged 29, who is known to the woman, was not physically injured.

A crime scene was established, and police commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

While in custody, one of the 29-year-old men allegedly assaulted a female senior constable at the station, before he was restrained.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital a short time later under police guard for treatment of a minor facial injury.

The officer did not require medical treatment.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information, or dashcam footage from the area, to contact Liverpool City Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
