Former mayor and local MP Craig Knowles will be among the guests when Liverpool throws a party next Friday, June 19, to celebrate the successful people of the area. The Heroes of Liverpool cocktail civic function will be held at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. Council has invited winners and finalists from the 2015 Australia Day awards, NSW Premier’s awards and other major awards to a cocktail evening in their honour. Guests include Professor Ken Hillman, Michael Coffey, Professor Roy Beran, Craig Knowles, Professor Minote Apte and Melinda Cruz, of Miracle Babies.
♦ At its next meeting, the Campbelltown chamber of commerce members and guests will get a full update of what’s happening at council, with the mayor, the planning director and the general manager all promoted as the guest speakers at the function next Wednesday, June 17 at Wests Leagues. Of course by general manager they mean the acting general manager because Paul Tosi, who is on sick leave, is still the general manager, even though he has given notice he will be retiring later this year.
♦ This year’s Liverpool Mayoral Ball will be held on Saturday, August 22, and the mayor, Ned Mannoun, says he hopes it will raise $100,000 for the two chosen charities, Share Care and Liverpool Hospital Trauma Centre. There will be an official launch of the Mayoral Ball next Wednesday, June 17, in the mayor’s Moore Street office. Representatives from both charities will attend to meet and greet the mayor. But they will also be taking along a client that they have helped.
♦ Campbelltown MP Greg Warren is fast becoming known as a man who likes to get up in parliament and say nice things about people and organisations he comes across in his electorate. Campbelltown Collegians Athletics Club were the latest beneficiaries of this approach from our newest MP. “I was honoured to attend the club’s presentation night a few weeks ago and was also given the opportunity to present the club’s most prestigious awards: junior and senior sportsperson of the year and volunteer of the year,’’ he told the house.
“Collegians is an entirely volunteer run club with dozens of local parents and caregivers contributing their time to give our local kids the opportunity to run, throw and jump every Friday night.’’ It has been a big year for the Collegians with a record-breaking 72 athletes representing the club at state level. “I congratulate the Campbelltown Collegians Athletics Club on a great year, and I wish it many more to come,’’ Mr Warren said.
♦ It’s all still very hush hush at present but one local MP will be getting a little nervous as the process of electoral redistribution starts to head towards the business end. That’s because this MP’s seat is under the pump. Nothing’s certain in life or politics, but the word at the moment is that there’s an even chance the seat in question may be swallowed up by neighbouring seats. The MP is one of the better people to have gone to Canberra to represent us and it will be a travesty if the seat is in fact abolished when the electoral commission makes a decision after considering all the submissions from the political parties and the public.
♦ Talking of nice politicians, the newly elected MP for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong, is about to welcome a new face to his office, an experienced hand dealing with the media. This very capable person is presently working in Campbelltown Council’s media and marketing department so Anoulack’s gain will be council’s loss.
