Welcome to the Groundhog Day election

election facts
Prime Minister Bob Hawke who promised during the 1990 election campaign that no child shall live in poverty.

Is this the craziest election we’ve ever had or what.

And to think we’re only three days into it!

The question is will the politicians run out of puff before we lose interest or the other way around.

It is a bit of a chicken and the egg question but there’s no denying we’re in for a very arduous 53 more days of what will no doubt become known as the Groundhog Day election.

From about day 30 is my tip.

This is a test of character that will really sort the men from the boys and the girls from the women.

But it was still a shock to see that some punters are blinking already – strewth.

To keep you amused for a few minutes, here’s the Top 5 election things you probably knew but didn’t really care about:

Number 1. What are we complaining about, in the USA the election lasts an entire 12 months. Not to mention they end up with some crazy candidates for president.

Number 2. Funny how we don’t envy people who don’t have to vote because they live in countries run by dictatorships.

Number 3. Who remembers Bob Hawke promising that no child shall live in poverty. That was for the 1990 election. He won. Enough said.

Number 4. The bad news for the cynics among us is that democracy means government by the people, and the only way to achieve that is by having a vote. Sorry.

Number 5. Yes, but nobody said the campaign before the vote had to be two months long.
