Greg Warren has launched a push to get a pedestrian crossing near the bus stop on Appin Road where a schoolboy was hit by truck on October 11.

Joshua Pike, 13, died in hospital last week.

Police said Joshua was struck by a delivery truck after getting off his school bus and while he was attempting to cross Appin Road near Church Street.

Now Mr warren, the state member for Campbelltown, has made it a priority to get a pedestrian crossing installed on Appin Road near the bus stop where Joshua got off.

Mr Warren has written to the minister for roads John Graham and the mayor of Wollondilly Matt Gould seeking their support in his bid to make Appin Road safer.

“I write to you with regards to the recent passing of 13-year-old schoolboy, Joshua Pike,’’ Mr Warren wrote in his letter to the roads minister.

“Joshua’s passing is deeply felt by the local and wider community, having lost his life so innocently in a tragic set of circumstances.

“Accordingly, I reiterate my support of the residents in my community and request a safety review of both pedestrian and vehicular movement in and around Appin, including consideration for the need of additional safety pedestrian crossings.

“Your urgent and appropriate consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated and I look forward to your response at your earliest.’’

In the letter to Mayor Gould, Mr Warren requests that the matter be brought to attention of the Wollondilly Traffic Committee.

He also asks Mayor Gould to work co-operatively with the appropriate state department to achieve safety improvements in Appin.

Mr Warren, pictured above on Appin Road in a file photo from 2021, has long campaigned for safety upgrades to Appin Road, which has claimed around 30 lives in the past 25 years.
