Green thumbs rise to the top in annual garden competition

The 2015 Campbelltown City Garden competition delivered a variety of beautiful backyards for judging.

Despite close competition, Long Point residents Rick and Sandra McDonald were recognised as the stand out gardeners in this year’s contest in winning the Grand Champion title for 2015,

All of the winners of this year’s competition were announced at a special awards ceremony held at the Greg Percival Community Centre in Ingleburn.

Mr and Mrs McDonald also won the Best Backyard, Best Large Backyard categories and were runners up in the Best Sustainable Garden categories.

They received $1,300 in prizemoney for winning the Grand Champion title, while Ross and Elizabeth Blinman of Ruse received $600 for being selected as Reserve Champion.

Mr and Mrs Blinman also won the Best Small/Medium Garden category and were runners-up in the Best Senior Citizen category.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, congratulated all of the entrants and the competition winners on their outstanding efforts.

“Council is proud to have hosted another successful garden competition this year, and once again, we saw some excellent entries,” Cr Hawker said.

“The annual competition celebrates the passion and dedication of our gardeners, and recognises that gardens bring people and communities together.

“I hope our annual competition continues to inspire residents to create beautiful gardens, and enhance the appearance of our city,” Cr Hawker said.
