Macarthur and Liverpool parents are being encouraged to enrol their kids in the Go4Fun Term 2 program to increase their physical activity and improve health before the winter months really settle in.
Go4Fun runs during the school term, after school and is delivered by trained health and fitness professionals.
The 10 week program teaches healthy eating and lifestyles through fun games and activities for children aged 7-13 who are above their ideal weight.
The NSW Schools Physical Activity and Nutrition Survey showed up to 28 per cent of parents with obese children in Kindergarten and years 2 and 4, thought their children were “about the right weight’’, while up to 62 per cent of parents thought their children were “slightly overweight’’.
Director of the South Western Sydney Local Health District health promotion service, Mandy Williams, said children who have been involved in Go4Fun programs have had great results.
“The program provides sustained benefits to the health of children and their families through increased physical activity and better nutrition choices,” Ms Williams said.
“Childhood is an important time for setting healthy habits, so getting supported by programs can help get a whole family on track for a healthy year,” she said.
Go4Fun will be running at 10 locations in Term 2 across south western Sydney, providing sustained benefits to the health of families through increased physical activity and better nutrition.
Since the program began in 2011, more than 2,000 families in NSW have successfully participated in Go4Fun.
Go4Fun is an enjoyable way to encourage children and the whole family to develop a love of physical activity and increase self-esteem and confidence.
