Liverpool City residents will again get the chance to get rid of problem household chemicals during the Household Chemical CleanOut, an August 17 free and environmentally safe initiative by Liverpool City Council and the NSW Environment Protection Authority.
Liverpool City Mayor Ned Mannoun said the event would help to protect the local environment by reducing the amount of hazardous waste being disposed of incorrectly.
“I urge residents to take advantage of this free event, to go and have a look around their house and garage, and get rid of any hazardous and unused waste chemicals they may have,” Mayor Mannoun said.
This service also complements council’s recently opened Community Recycling Centre at the Council Operations Centre.
“It is this kind of initiative, where council works with residents that is so important to protecting Liverpool’s natural environment,” the mayor said.
“While the recycling centre takes paints, oils, batteries and other problem materials, the Chemical CleanOut allows residents to safely dispose of the more hazardous waste items that are not recyclable.”
During the last Chemical CleanOut in February this year, more than 28 tonnes of waste material was dropped off from over 600 vehicles.
All types of household chemicals, including hazardous, will be accepted during the Chemical CleanOut, including:
Solvents and household cleaners
Floor care products
Ammonia-based cleaners
Fluorescent globes and tubes
Car batteries
Motor oil, fuels and fluids
Paint and paint-related products
Pesticides and herbicides
Poisons
Gas bottles
Fire extinguishers
Pool chemicals
Hobby chemicals
Acids and alkalis.
The Chemical CleanOut event will be held on Sunday, August 17 at the Liverpool City Council Operations Centre located at 99 Rose St, Liverpool, between the hours of 9am and 3.30pm. Chemicals will not be accepted outside these hours.
